Will it fit your Engine?

Fortunately, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has drafted standards for clutch housings. Although there are 8 standard bolt patterns, buses are generally equipped with only one of two. SAE #1 or SAE # 2.

The SAE # 2 housing (most common) has twelve 3/8" bolt holes on an 18 3/8" diameter circle set on 4.81 inch centers. (about 4 7/8 inches) Measure the center to center distance of the bolts that fasten the housing to your engine. If this distance is about 4 7/8 then you need a #2 housing. If this distance is exactly half that you still have a #2.with 24 bolt holes. The 24 bolt pattern is for an aluminum housing but the steel #2 housing will match up.

The SAE #1 housing has 12 bolts (7/16 dia) on a 20 & 7/8" bolt circle. These are 5.46 inches on center. There is also a 24 bolt pattern on this housing using 3/8 bolts. If your engine has a 24 bolt pattern just drill the 12 extra holes in the flange using a 13/32 " drill bit.
